emerge Champions
Indian Juniors Deepan Chakkravarthy and Tania Sachdev
emerged Asian Junior Champions at
Club Palm Bay, Marawila, Sri Lanka.
India also swept all the six medals,
Deepan, Satyapragyan, Kidambi taking
the first three places in the boys
section, while Tania Sachdev, Prathiba and
Mary Ann Gomes took the first three
places in the Girls section
here today. The
title triumph also brings
International Master title to Deepan
Chakkravarthy plus US Dollars 1000, along with a nine
game Grandmaster Norm, while India's
Satyapragyan who also tied for the
first place, becomes an
International Master. On the Girls
side, Tania Sachdev becomes a Woman
International Master along with a
nine game Woman Grandmaster Norm
plus the winner's purse of US
Dollars 600,
making it the biggest pay day as
well as glory for the all conquering
juniors.
It also brought to a
successful conclusion the strongest
chess tournament and the biggest
prize money (US Dollars 5000) event, ever to be
conducted in the Sri Lankan soil at
the most picturesque venue of Club
Palm Bay, Marawila.
